OGL Core Competencies

During my time in the Organizational Leadership program at Arizona State University, I've developed a wide range of leadership competencies that have helped shape my academic and professional presence. In this portfolio, I will be highlighting five competencies which reflect on my growth as a leader. Each competency has helped strengthen my real-word experiences and reflective learning.

Project Management

1. According to Project Management Institute (2017, project management is the practice of leading the work of a team to achieve specific goals and meet success criteria within a given timeframe. Project management has been a core leadership skill used in business. This skill is essential for delivering results and driving success following an executed plan. Project managers are responsible for delivering results as well as managing a budget, schedule, deliverables and closing a project. 2. Project management has taught me to lead with a purpose as well as be organized. The more structured of a leader you are the better you build and shape your team. These skills directly support my motivation an clarity as well as accountability as a leader. Project management influences how I make decisions, adapt to change and communicate with people. 3. Project Management is the most crucial part of the Organizational Leadership program at ASU because it teaches myself and other students how to turn ideas into reality. Leaders need to know how to plan and execute large scale projects. Including this competency helps me build translatable skills useful for various industries. The emphasis on problem-solving, collaboration and ethical leadership influenced from ASU has helped to shape my mindset for effective leadership. 4. Throughout my academic and professional career I have learned how to be an effective leader. Planning and organizing tasks not only within my courses but through my Amazon Area Manager Internship have been the best practices. I've learned to set SMART goals and develop process improvements as well as track project outcomes which has made me more confident as a future project manager. I've grown from someone who's followed plans to someone who can create and lead them. 5. For my artifact, please refer to the image above. I chose to showcase my internship project from Amazon during my time as an Area Manager L4. I led a data-driven project over the course of 10 weeks focused on reducing sort DPMO in the AFE department. I partnered with numerous departments to implement my plan and make changes using my resources to lead based on real-world data.
